Natalie: Part 1-Christmas Dreams Installment Seven

I woke up on Christmas morning and sighed. Christmas was my favorite time of year but right now I didn’t feel too merry.

I looked around and saw that no one was in their sleeping bags. Maybe I had slept late. I looked at the clock. It was only seven. I took my crutches and hobbled into the restaurant.

“MERRY CHRISTMAS, NATALIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

I looked around. Everyone in the town was crowded into the restaurant. There was a little Charlie Brown tree in the center of the room. There were a bunch of presents under it.

“And yes, Natalie, all these presents are for you,” Mr. Rivers said. I started to cry.

“What’s wrong, sugar?” Mr. Hank asked. Everyone looked at me like they were worried about me.

“Nothing!” I cried. “I’ve never felt more loved in my life . I’ve barely been here and I haven’t had the best attitude but you still did this for me. THANK YOU!!!” Everyone smiled. Momma came and gave me a hug.

“Natalie, I think its safe to say that everyone in this room cares about you,” Ms. Donna said walking up to me. I looked over at Emily who did not agree with that.

“Thank you!” I shouted giving her a hug.

“Don’t thank me. Darcy came up with this idea,” Ms. Donna said. I hobbled over to Darcy.

“Thanks,” I smiled. Momma raised her eyebrows at me.

“What?” I asked.

“You and Darcy are under the mistletoe,” Momma smiled.

My eyes bugged out. Darcy gave me a kiss on the cheek.

“Good enough,” Momma said. “Now open your presents!”

Fresh snow started to fall just as we sat down to eat Christmas dinner. Everyone had come together. There were turkeys, hams, prime ribs, and some chickens. We had a bunch of sides.

“I think we should do this every year,” Nelson said looking around at all the people talking and just being happy. I nodded.

I looked around the room myself. I suddenly felt like I could call this place home. Could I fit in here? Would anyone like me?

I looked at the table where I was sitting. Regina, Nelson, Erin, Claire, Victoria, and even Darcy were sitting here with me. These were my friends (well I was still working on Darcy).

My mother walked up to the table I was sitting at.

“Did you all get what you wanted for Christmas?” Momma asked.

“All I wanted for Christmas was a place to call home and I just might have found one,” I said hugging Regina.

Verse of the Day

Luke 2:1-10

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration whenQuirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest,     and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
